The FAQ's of Using Web Mail Access What is Web Mail Access? Web Mail Access is a way of seeing your email while it is still on our computer, before it is sent to yours. This can be convenient when you're away from your home computer at work, visiting or traveling, and it provides a way to manage your email if it's not coming in. How do I get into my web mail? On any computer that can go online, in the Internet go to our homepage, www.oregoncoast.com, and click on Member Web Mail. On the page that opens you need to fill in the two lines with your email address and your password, then click the Log In button. What would keep me from getting into my web mail if I follow all the steps? Aside from misspellings, two things can cause this. 1) It's not possible to have your email program checking for or bringing in email and get into your web mail at the same time. It may be enough just to close the email program. 2) If the email program was disconnected or failed as it was bringing in the email, the web mail access may be unable to work until it can clear itself for operation, about 15 - 20 min. Is there any special way to exit out of my web mail? To leave properly, so your email program will be ready to work right away again, at the left of the page click on Logoff. This will return you to the sign in page, from which you can go anywhere in the Internet. If you exit by going to another website or by closing the browser, our mail server (email computer) will not realize you've left, and it will be about 15 - 20 min before it resets itself to be accessed again. What email can I get? You can get email sent your email address with us at oregoncoast.com, at oregonized.net, or at waveIS.com. This will not be able to receive email from any other domain or webmail provider such as yahoo.com, mindspring.com, etc. How big an email can I get, and how much? Our computer will hold as much as 50 MB of email for you. Because of formatting, the largest single email you would be able to receive would be about 38 MB. You can see the size of an email at the right end of the line, just beyond the date and time the email was received. It is stored on the server, most recent to oldest. When the email is sent through to your computer, it will be sent oldest to most recent. What's going to happen with this email? Email addressed to you is held here in our mail server (email computer) until your computer comes online and is ready to receive it. By using web mail access you can read and reply to email, write new email, or delete email on the server. Anything deleted from the server is completely gone; any email on the server the next time your email program opens will be sent through to you. How do I see all my email in the web mail access? At the top center of the page you will see the total number of messages you have. The messages are displayed eight to a page. At the right end of the button row, it will show 1 of X, indicating you are on Page 1 of X pages. If you click on the arrows to either side, you will go forward or back one page at a time. Just above is a box. Enter any page number you want to go to directly, then hit your Enter key on the keyboard, and you will go to that page. How can I read an email? Click on the underlined Sender's name. The email will open in a separate window to be read. When finished reading, close the window with the 'X' and you will be back at the email list. Can I see attachements in web mail access? Later versions of Internet browsers can display large attachments. Just open the email. In the heading below the Subject line, you should see the name of the attachment and its size, underlined. Click on the name. A window will open showing the names of all attachments, if there are more than one; click on the name and it will be displayed. How do I send an email? At the left end of the button row, click on Compose. A window will open to address and write an email. When finished, click on Send. It will be sent and the window will close. How do I Reply to an email? When you are reading an email, there are buttons at the top to Reply, Forward and Print. How do I send an attachment? When you are in Compose, click on Attachments and you will be able to browse your computer to any file you want. Also, there are buttons to Save as a Draft and Send. How can I see what I've sent? A copy will be kept only in the Sent folder in the Web Mail window, on the email computer itself. If you want a copy of the email to be in your own email program on your own computer, send a bcc (blind carbon copy) of the email to yourself. How do I delete an email? There are three steps to completely delete an email. 1) Put a checkmark in the box of the email you want to delete. You can do more than one at a time, but they must be on the same page. 2) Click the Delete/Undelete button. The screen will then show the email with a line through it. If you change your mind at this point click the button again, and the line will be gone. 3) Click the Purge Deleted Items button to complete the process. You will be on the first page of your email again. How can I see more emails per page? At the left side of the page, click on Display. The first line on the page that opens lets you enter how many emails will show per page. After making the entry, click on the Save Settings button at the top. To return to your email, at the left side of the page click on Inbox. What emails would I want to delete? It's always nice to delete spam (junk mail) in the web mail access because then it will never come in to your computer. Sometimes a spam email, even a small one, will 'hang up' when it supposed to transfer to your email program. Deleting spam in web mail access will let the rest of your email come in. What about really big emails? As long as your email program is of a later version, a large email will transfer from the server to your computer if you give it enough time. For older email programs, there may be a disconnect when a very large email is being transferred. If the email program is not powerful enough to bring the large email in, the Internet browser may not be able to show it in web mail access either. Sometimes the best solution is to check in web mail access, see who it's from, delete the large email and ask them to send you the pictures in an envelope through the US Mail. Remember, there's a right way to leave web mail access. To leave properly, so your email program will be ready to work right away again, at the left of the page click on Logoff. This will return you to the sign in page, from which you can go anywhere in the Internet. Copyright © 1991-2005 Wave Internet Services 412 Pacific Avenue, Tillamook OR 97141 |
